It's Official

My Unmarried Partner Visa came through today! I'm marking it as our new anniversary. The mister and I will be residing in London again in coming weeks, until he takes me on our "unymoon", probably somewhere a bit less tropical. Aloha, Brittania!

Winter Mitts and Knits

It's snowing again. I've been knitting, revisiting patterns of previous years and making up some new ones. I thought I'd share.

These are bear hats in 2 sizes, for Mama, Papa, and Baby Bears. My friend Chris in Maine sent me video of his Baby Bear Blythe playing in one a few years ago. I'm trying desperately to locate it, as it would melt you. I made up this pattern, and would be happy to pass it on, just email:

I'm obsessed with Scandanavian patterned mittens. These are a few I've made this year, plus two more I'll be posting in a few weeks (and yes, they all have partners).

Now I'm trying my first sweater for a long time. It's baby-sized, for four new Baby Bears of friends due this year!

Popeye Pot Pie

I made a Spinach Pie from this book, which I got for Christmas. The lovely "dinner ladies" used to make something similar at my beloved graduate school canteen, where it was my favorite choice.

Not only do I believe I'm getting a week's worth of iron in a slice, I feel like I'm making up for the dirty looks I gave my undergraduate college roommate when she offered to make Greek spanakopita for me. I'm eating it now, Janine, see? And I LOVE it.

Update: Snow Treats...Shoveled Down!

These photos just in from a New York fan of choco-marshmallow treats:

Child is kept busy and entertained for brief but valuable moments while Mommy shovels sidewalks of constant Northeastern snowfall!

Snow Day Treats

I made my own marshmallows! I learned how here, and it was a fluffy, sticky, no-bake adventure! I melted a very nice chocolate bar once I cut the marshmallows, and streaked them with the tynes of a fork.

I also mixed up some hot chocolate mix. I wanted a mix you could add water to, not milk. I made a big batch, and packaged everything individually. I know the boxes are from Christmas, but since they're red, I'm pretending they're an early Valentine's treat.

The marshmallows, melting in the hot chocolate, are creamy and lovely and the whole thing has also peaked my interest in candy-making. Too bad I don't like candy.

Mr. Furly: Case Closed!

Friends! I'm so sorry I haven't been able to give you an update on Furl's legal status; it was just too dangerous. Well, I'm happy to report he is no longer on the lam, and has been cleared of all charges! The cops caught up to him here on the East Coast (NYPD style) and extradited him back to San Fransisco, where he was forced into the lineup:

Turns out the bank robbery was executed by the beaver second from the right. His name is PJ "The Mouse" McAllister, and he has a long and seedy criminal past. Our legal counsel was able to obtain some CCTV footage of the event:

To be honest, you couldn't fault the police for picking up Mr. Furly, though he's much older (and a lot more innocent) than most of these characters. The police were going off this image of "The Mouse" from previous encounters:

This is not a beaver you'd want to meet in a dark alley, I'll say that. And so, my friends, Furl is back with me on the East Coast, relaxing and finally looking forward to 2009. I can't say that these events did not leave scars... He's requested we leave the country again for some true R & R. We'll see!

Woody Hoodie

I can finally reveal this jacket, given to a friend yesterday! It's a hoodie, made from the same pattern as the last one.

It's a great for camouflage for around one's neighborhood, should one see persons from one's past...lurking. Ah, to be home again!
