A few weekends ago, we had one of those nights.  You know those nights, where the baby is up for seemingly no reason many, many times, and you wake up feeling like you might have been better off if you never went to sleep at all. The morning light hurt, and everyone was cranky. So, we got some pancakes at the local joint (good, but no IHOP, mind you) and headed out to the beach at Sauvie Island for some fresh air.

Desolate and calming, it seemed to be just what we needed. On the way home, we listed to NPR and I sat in the backseat, keeping Penny awake with songs and toys before her afternoon nap, which we all took together. A much needed reset to what could have become a chaotic day.
